How to be a real friend

“Loyalty means I am down with you whether you are wrong or right, But I will tell you when you are wrong and help you get out it”

There is no way you can define friendship as such… but then there are ways in which you can develop and maintain and act upon being a good and real and true friend.

The first step towards being a real friend is knowing their least commendable qualities and still love, respect and support them for what they are.

Secondly always remember not to be fair-weather friend.  Set your boundaries, and your limits, yet being there only when it suits you, is being selfish. Communicate openly and honestly. Respect their space as much as you want yours.

When you help them for something, or do something for them, do it without expecting anything in return, basically with no strings attached.

As for me, if you mean something to me, I will do my best and give it my 100 percent to keep you in my life, no matter what, regardless of whether its in my best interest or not. Losing friends is always hard for me and the worst is when I am clueless what caused the drift between us or why we no longer talk.

A secret recipe would be a mix of loyalty, understanding, encouragement and trust…. There you go, Juice of Friendship is ready!! Respect and Love and Companionship will follow on it’s on.

Two things you never have to chase in life… “Good Friends and True Love”

How badly I want to be with someone

“When you care for someone it’s not all about being with them, it’s about being there for them”

In our lives, we always come across people who do not seem to be perfect in so many ways, yet instead of looking for their faults, negative element, we put him/her on a pedestal. That’s what life is about!!

It’s not about someone being there for you when all goes well in life, it’s about someone being there for you when you feel life is showcasing a poster of hell for you.

You do not have to invest in a lot of money or materialistic…. All that’s required is direct your energy, your time towards the person who needs it the most. Help them show how beautiful the world they wake up to breathe is. J

If you speak to someone on your loved ones behalf then its still classified as being there for them, if you feel you are the only one providing the care and support and the same is not reciprocated back, then be rest assured at least you have done your part to the best of your capability.

I strongly believe in treasuring people and creating memories. Disconnected, emotionless, crazy, deep in love are all just words, mere words.. the real punch lies in how badly you wish to stay connected and how badly you want to be there for someone.

In today’s “Gen X” as they say, move on, focus on yourself, live independent… sounds pretty sooper.. but again, for me, things might definitely not go as I planned or as I desired it to happen, but still “I TRIED… and I DID NOT GIVE UP” Because , its simple - “ I CARE” J

Menstrupedia

“ Am I the Problem??”

I was someone who did care, in fact I should rephrase myself, I am someone who do care about these Menstrual Taboos, but at times when it gets to the point that its stretched a lot, beyond a limit, then its gets on to me, and currently I feel I should get into this mission to abolish all these myths, at least for the Gen Next!!

Being from Mumbai, and a strong devotee of Ganesh ji, my friend was tooo thrilled to do it all for The Elephant God, the Vignahartha(one who vanishes obstacles) and little did she expect her obstacle was on the way. It was not very far when she realized that she had her “female problem”. Eww, yuck gross are the words that run in her mind, if people from the older generation figure out this.. It means she has to stay out from the entire celebration?? It means she has to refrain from making those delicious (shapeless) modaks J, It means she has to stay away from her amazing family who is part of this festival?

Wow, all for what?? What did she do, Just born as a female? Just had to go through this female cycle and bleeding, which eventually turns any female in to the proud woman and the sooper proud mommies???

There is something that most of us are unaware of: In the book Blood, Bread and Roses, by Judy Grahn, she offers fascinating explanations for this...

Menstruating women were considered to be having special powers during menstruation, which if not used properly could cause harm to others. In addition, practical reasons of predatory animals smelling the blood in ancient times and coming for the kill, would have led to these women being kept in separate huts to protect the community. It is believed that during menstruation, women are constantly dissipating energy from their bodies. Most religious chants are meant to balance out the energies in our body. However, this would interfere with the natural losing of energy that must happen in menstruating women to prevent excessive energy build-up. Hence, menstruating women are told to keep away during such occasions, so that their natural processes are not tampered with. The other reason I came across was that menstruating women become open to receiving and absorbing energy during this time. This means, they can easily absorb other’s energies, including negative energies. Hence, they are asked to stay away from crowds and gatherings.

I would definitely make it a point to share these explanations of the rituals and taboos with my daughter and the Gen Next, so that they can appreciate the spirit behind the ancient wisdom, whether or not they chose to follow it. Let us act responsibly about what we tell them!!
